Care of drapes and decorative fabrics

Care of drapes and decorative fabrics

Depending on the article and the general operational context, it may be necessary to adjust the following care recommendations to special factors. Trevira CS materials should always be washed separately.

Preparation

  • Take off rings to avoid snagging
  • Wash drapes and decorative fabrics separately
  • Small full chamber machines (with no sub-sections, up to 18 kg content) are most suitable
  • Load machine with only one third usual amount

First wash cycle

  • Liquor ratio: 1:7 to 1:8
  • Water temperature: up to 30°C
  • Additives: 20-35 g/kg light-duty detergent (no additives) with non-ionic components
  • Duration of treatment: 10-15 minutes

Interim rinse

With heavily soiled drapes an interim rinse is recommended, adding 10 ml/kg caustic soda (15%).

  • Liquor ratio 1:7 to 1:8
  • Water temperature: up to 30°C
  • Duration of treatment: 5-10 minutes

Second wash cycle

  • Liquor ratio 1:7 to 1:8
  • Water temperature: Normal wash 30-40°C
  • Disinfectant wash 55-60°C (use soft water)
  • Additives: normal wash 10-15 g/kg
  • Wash without additives on non-ionic basis. Disinfectant wash with chemotheric products according to directions in §10c of BSG.
  • Duration of treatment: approx. 10 minutes

Rinse

  • Liquor ratio 1:8 with hard water
  • Water temperature: cool slowly to approx. 20°C
  • Additives: a soft detergent at a concentration of a maximum 5 g/kg of load can be added to the final rinse. Avoid over-dosing at all costs.
  • Removal of water: gentle spin-dry to approx. 50% residual moisture

Drying and ironing

  • Hang up flat at once to dry
  • Use of tumbler dryer possible
  • Fill ratio approx. 1:40 (one third normal fill)
  • Dry to expended air temperature of 80°C
  • Then aerate with rotating drum until completely cool
  • Hang up immediately after removal from dryer or spread out without folding
  • Dampening or pressing may be necessary if curtains are left lying for some time

Dry cleaning

  • Possible with perchloric ethylene under gentle conditions

Repair work

  • Use only branded sewing thread in polyester
  • Reduce thread tension on sewing machine
  • Number of stitches: approx. 4 to 5 stitches/cm
